Indiana Camping Indiana Camping

I have been camping for over 20 years now but it has only been in the last 10 years that I found camping in State Parks a better and cheaper choice than private campgrounds.

I am not against private campgrounds and think they are vital to the camping industry as a whole. One of the amazing things I have found out in camping at most State Parks around the Midwest is simply; Better shower and restrooms, the park is cleaner and there are generally more activities to do for the entire family without having to leave the state park. This brings me around in telling you about Indiana State Parks.

I was born and raised in Northern Indiana and over the past 20 years have traveled all around in the state from Harmonie to Angola. I have been on the Indiana Universities main campus to Purdue’s to Notre Dame’s and many, many smaller campuses like Anderson, Ball State and Bethel. Now with this in mind, assuming I know just a little bit of Indiana let us talk about Indiana’s State Park system.

Over the last 10 years, I have stayed at about 16 different State Parks out of the 34 Indiana has to offer. (Some of them are called reservoirs more on this later) What I have been able to find out about these state parks has been the consistency of up-to-date facilities each state park offers. It does not matter if you camp at a park that is by a major town or a small town, you will find that the park is always in great shape and clean. I have also noticed that Indiana State Parks are much more secure than other parks and the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) Rangers and officers are friendly and available. They also try to make sure that the campground is safe for everyone. They patrol the campgrounds 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I have never stayed at any state parks within Indiana without seeing a park ranger at least 3 times each day and more frequent during the evening hours.

These are just some of the reasons why I feel Indiana has one of the best state park systems in the Midwest. If someone where to come and ask me if I would recommend staying at a state park in Indiana, I would not hesitate in letting them know that they would be making a great decision.

I have included in this section of my web site all of Indiana State Parks and Reservoirs. No matter if, you are just driving through or looking to camp in Indiana, you will be able to find a state park or reservoir and can feel confident that you are staying at one of the best park systems in the country.
